This class is designed to introduce the new user to the Internet and how to use the Internet to find information, transfer files, send and receive electronic mail and perform electronic commerce.

Outline

Lesson 1 Overview of the Internet – Provides an overview of the Internet, the client-server model, connecting to the Internet, Internet protocols, the Domain Name System, the business of domain names, and intranets and extranets.

Lesson 2 Browsing the World Wide Web – Covers Web browser and the Internet, Internet Explorer, Netscape, and configuring your browser.

Lesson 3 File Transfer Protocol, Newsgroups, and Telnet – Covers ways to transfer files across the Internet, the use of Internet newsgroups, and using telnet to remotely administer computers.

Lesson 4 Electronic Mail – Introduces the concept of electronic mail, how to send electronic mail and how to receive electronic mail.

Lesson 5 Objects, Plug-ins and Viewers – Covers the concepts of objects, plug-ins and how to install plug-ins, and using viewers.

Lesson 6 Search Engines – Introduces search engines and methods of using search engines to find information.

Lesson 7 Security – Discusses the topic of Internet security and how to secure Web browsers.

Lesson 8 Electronic Commerce – Covers the concept of conducting commerce over the Internet.
