Overview
This class is designed to introduce the new user to the computer and Windows 2000 Professional operating system.  The course is for those who have never used a computer or those that are transferring over from earlier versions of Windows or even from a Macintosh.  Students will be introduced to the computer operating system, hardware and software components, as well as file and directory structure.  Students will have their own computers in the classroom.  By completing individual hands-on exercises students will learn to:  manipulate Windows to customize their working environment, copy, move, and delete files, learn hardware and software terminology, and understand basic file and folder structure.

Prerequisites
There are no mandatory prerequisites for this course.  Familiarity with MS-DOS, Windows 95, 98 or Millennium Edition would be helpful.

Outline

Lesson 1 Overview of Windows 2000 – Provides an overview of the Windows operating system, how to log onto your workstation, the Windows 2000 Desktop, and Windows 2000 Help.

Lesson 2 The Windows 2000 Hierarchy – Covers the Windows 2000 hierarchy, My Computer, and My Network Places.

Lesson 3 Windows Explorer – Covers the ways to use Windows Explorer to find resources on your computer.

Lesson 4 Working with Windows 2000 Programs – Introduces the parts of windows, how to manipulate windows, install and work with applications, introduces you to some useful system applications, and introduces multitasking.

Lesson 5 Customizing the Windows 2000 Desktop – Introduces shortcuts, using Web style, and customizing the Windows 2000 Desktop.

Lesson 6 Using the Network and Active Directory – Covers My Network Places, the Windows 2000 Active Directory and working remotely with Windows 2000.

Lesson 7 Managing and Administering the Workstation – Discusses the Microsoft Management Console, the Control Panel and the New Technology File System.
